This term we are looking at where our food comes from - seasons and Harvest.

This term we are looking at where our food comes from - seasons and Harvest. 1 We have been on an autumn walk

Term 1

The children have settled really well into the Nursery setting and all seem to be enjoying themselves. For the first half term we are going to be working as a big group for our Phonics work - looking at Phase 1 of Letters and Sounds - This involves lots of listening and pre reading and writing skills so is important for all the children to take part. After the Half term holiday we will be splitting into smaller groups - some children going up to Foundation and taking part in RWI and some doing the BLAST programme with Ms Weeks.

We are focusing on Autumn and food - where our food comes from and what happens when the season starts changing. We will be making hedgehog leaf pictures, sun catchers in Autumn colours and lots more.

If you are out and about with your children and see any signs of Autumn ie pine cones, acorns, conkers - please collect things for you child to bring in and share with the class. This will improve children's speaking and listening skills.

For the last two weeks of the half term we are looking at the Story - The Enormous Turnip, following the schools success with Talk for Writing we will be learning the story along with actions.

Please do not hesitate to talk to a member of staff if you have any concerns or information you think is important regarding your child.

Many thanks

The Nursery Team.

Welcome back to Summer Term 2!

The last term for some of our nursery childrencoolbefore they start school!  Letters will be going out very soon regarding transition to Foundation Class.  This term our topic will be looking at different forms of transport.  In Talk 4 Writing we will be reading 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson and looking at the rhyming words in it. In maths we will be finding one more and one less than a number to 5, then 10.  In Read, Write Inc we are continuing to learn our sounds with the first week being 'o' and 'c'.

Week 6- This week will be 'p' and 'g' in RWI. Can your child play 'I Spy' with you using the sounds we have been learning - m,a,s,d,t,i,n,p,g?

Week 5

This week we have been sorting dinosaurs according to their appearance in maths.  In RWI we have been learning the sounds 'i' and 'n'.  The children are enjoying our Talk 4 Writing poem and are beginning to be able to spot the rhyming words.

Week 4 - This week was 'word time' in RWI, blending the sounds we know so far into words. The children are doing very well and lots can now read some simple words, please check your child's Learning Journey on Tapestry! We have started reading the poem 'Five Enormous Dinosaurs' in Talk 4 Writing and making dinosaur masks so we can act it out.

Week 3 - This week was 'd' and 't' in RWI.  The children are really enjoying our topic and have been learning lots about dinosaurs.  We have been pretending to be the dinosaurs from our story Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus.  The children can now follow the story map for the chorus.  We have been matching dinosaurs to the correct sized dinosaur caves in maths.  We also made dinosaur biscuits.

Week 2 - The children are really enjoying our new topic on Dinosaurs and we have been learning lots of dinosaur names and information from non-fiction books.  We have been reading Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus in Talk 4 Writing and most of the children can now join in with the chorus.  In Read, Write Inc we are continuing to learn our initial letter sounds and beginning to blend them together.  This week it was 'a' and 's'.  In maths this week we have been comparing sizes of dinosaurs and putting them in size order from smallest to largest.  Have a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend!
