Welcome to Nursery at Mount Wise Primary School

At Mount Wise Primary School, our Nursery provides a nurturing, stimulating and welcoming environment for children aged 2–4 years, where every child is valued as a unique learner. We understand that the early years are a crucial time in a child’s development, and we are committed to giving our youngest learners the very best start to their educational journey.

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and is carefully designed in line with the United Learning curriculum and schema, ensuring children build strong foundations for future learning. We believe children learn best through meaningful experiences, so our approach is child-led, placing children’s interests, curiosities and fascinations at the heart of everything we do. By listening to and observing our children, we create exciting learning opportunities that inspire exploration, creativity and discovery.

Developing communication and language skills is a key priority in our Nursery. We foster a love of books, stories and language through daily story sessions and a rich literacy environment. Children benefit from our language-focused programmes, including BLAST (Boosting Language, Auditory Skills and Talking), Phonological Awareness activities and Read Write Inc. (RWI), helping them develop confidence in speaking, listening and early reading skills.

Outdoor learning is an important part of our provision. Children have access to outdoor play throughout the day in all weathers, allowing them to explore, investigate and develop their physical skills while connecting with the natural world. We believe that outdoor experiences support children’s wellbeing, independence and curiosity, providing endless opportunities for learning and adventure.
