Hello, my name is Mrs Binley and I teach in the Swans Class on Monday and Tuesday. I have been at Mount Wise for 16 years and I am the History and Geography lead.

Hello, my name is Mrs Thorne and I teach the Year 1 Swans Class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
I am the Art Lead here at Mount Wise and have worked here for 11 years. I enjoy camping and being creative. I am passionate about creating a fun learning environment that all children have access to.
Maths, Reading & Writing:
Maths
Autumn: We will be learning to count, order numbers, place value to 20, number recognition. and simple number facts.
Reading
Autumn: We will be continuing to follow the Read, Write, Inc scheme of work (see video below). Your child will bring home a reading book and reading record every day. Please ensure to hear them read at home as often as possible. We will change their reading book at least once a week.
Writing
Autumn: We will be learning to write simple sentences, poetry, letters and stories.
Foundation Subjects:
Science Autumn: We are learning about animals including humans. Spring: We will explore the properties of everyday materials, plants and seasonal changes. Summer: We will also complete some investigations and develop our scientific skills. |
History Autumn: We will develop a secure understanding of the past, present and future and we will think about our families and make a family tree. Spring: We will explore the life of Sir Francis Drake and compare it to that of Amelia Earhart. We will discus the big question: Was Drake a Hero or Villain? |
Geography Autumn: We will explore local geography and maps. We will discuss the human and physical features. Summer: We will also look at hot and cold countries and weather. We will discuss our big question: Would I rather live in a hot or cold place? |
Music Autumn: We will develop our singing and will learn about pitch and tone. Spring: We will create sounds using our bodies and instruments to create short performances. |
DT Autumn: We will explore a range of joining techniques to design, make and evaluate our own push up puppets. Spring: We will spend time planning, designing and creating fruit salads. Summer: We will also explore a range of moving mechanisms to make moving pictures. |
Art Autumn: We will explore the work of Sir Terry Frost and use his style as an inspiration. Spring: We will explore the use of line, colour and collage. Summer: We will develop our artistic skills using printing inspired by Ted Harrison. |
Computing Autumn: We will learn to use technology purposefully to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content. Spring & Summer: We will look at how technology is used beyond school and how to use it safely. |
PE Autumn, Spring & Summer: In PE, we will develop the fundamental skills in agility, balance and coordination. We will also develop our skills in shape, travel, flight, rotation, artistry, solo and partner work. |
RE Autumn: We will explore Christianity. We will explore The Creation Story and what Christians believe God is like. Spring: We will also develop our understanding of Judaism, specifically who is Jewish and how do they live? |
